Study by CEHHS Faculty Explores Advantages of Bilingual Children

Two faculty members in the College of Education, Health & Human Sciences have studied the advantages of bilingual children in comparison to those who are monolingual.

Nils Jaekel, clinical professor in the Department of Theory and Practice in Teacher Education, and Julia Jaekel, associate professor in the Department of Child and Family Studies, conducted research in conjunction with Jessica Willard and Birgit Leyendecker, researchers from the Ruhr-University in Bochum, Germany. Their research was conducted via a computer test and measured the time bilingual and monolingual children took to correctly respond to computer-based problems and stimuli.
