Currently, our department makes two minors available to our MPH and PhD students: the epidemiology minor and the Intercollegiate Graduate Statistics Program (a statistics minor).
The graduate minor in community health education (CHE) provides graduate students the opportunity to build a strong methodological foundation which can be applied to public health and a variety of academic programs and research areas.
Requirements for the Minor:
- Average GPA of 3.0 or higher in all courses
- Approval of CHE concentration faculty
- Interested students must earn a minimum grade of B+ in PUBH 552: Assessment and Planning.
Required Semester Hours:
- 12 semester hours
Required Coursework (hours):
- Public Health 537—Program Evaluation (3)
- Public Health 552 – Assessment and Planning (3)
- Two elective courses from the following list:
- PUBH 532 – Health Communications (3)
- PUBH 535 – Public Health Book Club (3)
- PUBH 536 – Research Methods in Health (3)
Cannot be used as an elective for students enrolled in the EPI concentration - PUBH 555 – Health & Society (3)
Prerequisite of PUBH 552 required for this course - PUBH 556 – Grant Writing (3)
Requirements for the Minor:
- A minimum average 3.30 GPA in PUBH 530 & PUBH 540
- Approval from your program advisor
- Students must complete the Epidemiology minor form after completing PUBH 530 and 540 but before registering for an approved elective or PUBH 542

The statistics minor requires 9 semester credit hours. MPH coursework hours may be used to partially satisfy credit hours needed for the respective minors.
