An Outstanding Honor
The prestigious Jimmy and Ileen Cheek Graduate Student Medal of Excellence is awarded each year to an outstanding graduate student who has shown exceptional academic achievement, dedication to their college, exemplary leadership and community involvement, genuine passion for their chosen field of study, and personal sacrifices made for their education. This year McKenzie Granata Green, a third-year concurrent MPH/PhD candidate in the Department of Public Health, is the recipient of this award. McKenzie is also a graduate of UT’s Community Engagement Academy and a current Carnegie Foundation Community Engagement Fellow. Her research interest includes pulmonary disease epidemiology, specifically using secondary prevention measures to improve pulmonary outcomes in rural and underserved communities. This award will be presented to McKenzie at this year’s Chancellor’s Honors Banquet.
