Yetta Lewis is driven by the need to uplift the community. Yetta is the Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Gestalt Community Schools. Under Yetta’s leadership, the Gestalt network has grown from one school serving 350 families to 5 schools serving now over 2,900 families in Southeast, Memphis. The schools are named Power Center Academies, and the campuses host grade level kindergarten through twelfth. In 2011, Power Center Academy Middle received the TN Score Award as one of the top middle schools in the state. All campuses are public, charter schools that excel in academics and community service. Since 2015, over 1,300 alumni have graduated from its high school, achieving a 98% graduation rate, eight consecutive years of 100% college, trade school, and military acceptance, and over $130M in merit-based scholarships. Yetta has led community revitalization, resulting in over $50M in investment in Memphis. Those revitalization projects include the Marina Cove apartments, Mendenhall Mall, and Malco theater, all of which were empty, blighted spaces reimagined as educational and community spaces.
Yetta holds a Bachelor of Arts from Salisbury University and a Master of Education from Loyola University. Additionally, she serves on several community boards, including the Tennessee Charter Schools Center Board of Directors, Vice Chair, Memphis Inner City Rugby, and Community Cares.
