Rod Carter holds a Bachelor of Science in Broadcast Journalism from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University and a Master of Arts in Journalism and Media Studies from the University of Alabama. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Adult and Continuing Education at the University of Tennessee–Knoxville.
Rod is a weeknight evening anchor at WNCN in Raleigh, North Carolina, joining the station after nearly two decades at WFLA in Tampa, Florida. He also serves as an adjunct professor at Florida A&M University, teaching News Reporting and Writing, and previously taught Communications at St. Augustine’s University in Raleigh.
He has a strong commitment to mentorship and journalism education, having created a Broadcast Journalism Boot Camp at Florida A&M and led the NABJ–FAMU Journalism Short Course for many years. His doctoral research interests include mentorship, professional development, and expanding access within journalism and media.
Rod has held several leadership roles within the National Association of Black Journalists, including Secretary of the Executive Board and Chair of the 50th Anniversary Committee. He is also active in community service ans the chair of the Community Leadership Board of the North Carolina American Diabetes Association and Chair of Gentleman’s Quest, a minority male youth mentoring program. he’s active in other professional organizations, including Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., where he serves as International Director of Publicity, and the NAACP.
