Research
My first clinical passions and program of research centered on integrating a strength-based, wellness lens with high-intensity clinical issues including crisis and suicide intervention and diagnosis in counseling. My recent scholarly and professional work is committed to the professionalization of counseling through research and counselor preparation. This requires developing a strong evidence base for practice that is firmly rooted in our professional commitments. In turn, we position ourselves to develop a strong workforce of professional counselors who are equipped to utilize evidence-based, culturally responsive, and developmentally sensitive skills in their communities.

Engagement
I believe it is important to engage our skills within our local community. Within UT, I serve as Faculty Advisor for Upsilon Theta chapter of Chi Sigma Iota Counseling Academic and Professional Honor Society. Locally, I serve on the Board of Advisors for Contact Careline, our local affiliate of the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline.
I serve my discipline as editor of Counselor Education and Supervision, the official journal of the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision. I also currently serve as the Association for Assessment and Research in Counseling representative to the American Counseling Association Governing Council.
