Research
My first clinical passions and program of research centered on integrating a strength-based, wellness lens with high-intensity clinical issues including crisis and suicide intervention and diagnosis in counseling. My recent scholarly and professional work is committed to the professionalization of counseling through research and counselor preparation. This requires developing a strong evidence base for practice that is firmly rooted in our professional commitments. In turn, we position ourselves to develop a strong workforce of professional counselors who are equipped to utilize evidence-based, culturally responsive, and developmentally sensitive skills in their communities.

Engagement
I believe it is important to engage our skills within our local community. I serve as Faculty Advisor for Upsilon Theta chapter of Chi Sigma Iota Counseling Academic and Professional Honor Society. Locally, I serve on the Board of Directors for Contact Careline, our local affiliate of the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline.
I continue to serve my professional discipline as editor of Counselor Education and Supervision, official journal of the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision. I also serve as the Association for Assessment and Research in Counseling representative to the American Counseling Association Governing Council.
