RESEARCH

KRSS is deeply committed to pioneering interdisciplinary research that revolves around physical activity, human movement, and sport studies. Most of the research endeavors in the department are carried out in its dedicated labs. However, some research projects are also led individually by the department’s esteemed faculty members. Collaboration and a multidisciplinary approach are hallmarks of the research ethos at KRSS.

The Active Change Lab

Our mission is to help all individuals improve their health and wellbeing by changing their lifestyle habits (physical activity and nutrition) to prevent the many chronic diseases that are associated with unhealthy lifestyles such as obesity, cardiovascular disease, cancer, and Diabetes.

Applied Sport Psychology Laboratory

The mission of the Applied Sport Psychology Lab (ASPL) is to maximize the athlete experience and benefits available from sport through world-leading research and programming. Research conducted within the ASPL typically focuses on sport groups and key sport stakeholders, as well as athlete and support staff for athletic organizations.

Motor Behavior Laboratory

Research conducted in the MBL is typically directed toward identifying and understanding the factors that mediate motor performance, the learning of motor skills, and the control of goal-directed actions.

MOVE + PLAY Laboratory

The Move + Play Lab advances research on how movement, play, and physical activity support children’s health, development, and learning. Combining expertise in motor development and pediatric exercise physiology, the lab examines fundamental motor skills, physical activity behaviors, and fitness across school, home, and outdoor settings. By integrating assessment, intervention, and policy research, the Move + Play Lab develops evidence-based strategies to promote active, healthy lifestyles and enhance cognitive and academic outcomes in youth.
