The Master of Science in Education major has five concentrations: Applied Behavior Analysis (non-licensure), Educational Studies (non-licensure), Instructional Technology (non-licensure), Professional Internship (initial licensure) (post-baccalaureate), and Practitioner (initial licensure) (job-embedded).

Applied Behavior Analysis Concentration (Non-Licensure)
The Master of Science in Teacher Education, Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) Concentration is designed to prepare professionals to use core behavior analytic skills to improve the lives of children, adolescents, and adults with unique learning and behavior challenges. Through the ABA Concentration, students will take the Association of Behavior Analysts International® Verified Course Sequence* (VCS) necessary to pursue certification as a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst® (BCBA®). *This concentration does not lead to teacher licensure.
Educational Studies Concentration (Non-Licensure)
The Educational Studies concentration does not lead to initial licensure. It is designed for students who hold a valid Tennessee teaching license, are preparing to teach on the post-secondary level, or are preparing for careers that do not require teacher licensure. Specialization areas include:

Non-licensed applicants to Education Studies concentration will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis and must have a strong disciplinary background and professional goals, which can be fostered through participation in the non-licensure program.
Instructional Technology Concentration (Non-Licensure)
The Master of Science in Teacher Education, Instructional Technology Concentration (IT Online) is a fully online program designed to prepare leaders in the field of instructional design and technology. Coursework is both synchronous and asynchronous and enables students to design, develop, implement, and evaluate online learning environments. These skills are desirable in a variety of career contexts such as education, corporate, government, and nonprofit organizations. *This concentration does not lead to teacher licensure.
Professional Internship Concentrations (Post-Baccalaureate) (Initial Licensure)
The Professional Internship (Post-Baccalaureate) concentrations are designed for students who have already obtained a bachelor’s degree and are seeking initial teacher licensure. The Professional Internship (Post-Baccalaureate) programs allow you to concurrently earn a Master’s degree while serving as an intern under the supervision of a highly skilled Mentor Teacher in a local school. Concentrations include:

Practitioner Concentration (Job-Embedded Program) (Initial Licensure) – Distance Education only
The Practitioner Concentration (job-embedded) is designed for students who have already completed an undergraduate degree and are seeking initial (Practitioner) licensure in a high-needs area while serving as the instructor of record at a partnership school system or private school. The Practitioner Concentration is offered fully online / distance education only. Specialization areas include:

Students must be admitted to the Graduate School and meet content/subject knowledge requirements. Students have three years to meet state and program licensure requirements.
