Research
Faculty in Art Education engage in research focused on K-12 arts in both formal and informal education settings and equity-focused K-12 art instruction.
Programs
TPTE’s Art Education programs offer an undergraduate minor, graduate level studies, and a graduate certificate.
Undergraduate
Students seeking licensure to teach art in the schools can pursue the Bachelor of Fine Arts (B. F. A.) degree in Studio Art or the Bachelor of Arts (B. A.) degree in Art in the College of Arts and Sciences and complete a minor in Art Education at the undergraduate level.
Graduate
We offer Master of Science (M. S.) and Educational Specialist (Ed. S.) degrees as well as an Online Graduate Certificate that provide opportunities for focused studies in Art Education. The M. S. programs offer options both for students seeking teaching licensure as well as for students who hold a valid Tennessee teaching license, are preparing to teach on the post-secondary level, or are preparing for careers that do not require teacher licensure. The Ed. S. degree is designed for students who already possess a Master’s degree in education and are seeking to enhance their professional knowledge and expertise in art education. We also offer an online Graduate Certificate in Art Education (K-12) for practicing and licensed teachers and other education professionals.
