Stefanie Benjamin, Ph.D.
Associate Professor
Dr. B here—an Associate Professor at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, specializing in critical tourism studies. My research challenges traditional paradigms, offering fresh insights and transformative approaches to the field. Over the past decade, I’ve collaborated with changemakers like NOMADNESS Travel Tribe and the Black Travel Alliance, contributing to documentaries, academic scholarship, and industry publications that amplify counter-narratives. Our work has been featured in AFAR Travel Magazine, The Conversation, and Condé Nast Traveler, bridging academia and the public sphere.
Beyond research, I actively engage in community outreach and industry collaborations to connect scholarly insights with real-world tourism practices. Committed to disrupting dominant ideologies, I strive to make “good trouble” through my research, teaching, and service. My critical scholarship serves as a pedagogical framework, underscoring the urgency of dismantling oppressive systems to reimagine a more inclusive, just, and sustainable future for tourism and academia alike.
