Director of Space Operations, Strategy & Planning

David Bakewell serves as Director of Space Operations, Strategy & Planning, supporting the Colleges of Education, Health, and Human Sciences and Engineering. David brings more than 20 years of experience in architecture, facilities management, and capital project delivery.

Prior to this role, David served as Director of Space & Facilities for the College of Arts & Sciences, where he led space operations and planning for more than 40 buildings. He also worked in the University of Tennessee’s Office of Capital Projects for over a decade, managing the planning, design, and construction of campus projects. He began his career in private architectural practice.

David’s work focuses on space utilization, facilities planning, and guiding renovations and capital projects to support teaching, research, and student success. He works closely with college leadership, faculty, and campus partners to align facilities with institutional priorities.

David is a licensed architect in the state of Tennessee and a LEED Accredited Professional.
