By accomplishing this, the institute will achieve its primary goal, which is to increase the number and quality of math and science teachers nationwide.<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;Civilization is on the brink of a new industrial order. The big winners&#8230; will not be those who simply make commodities faster and cheaper than the competition. They will be those that develop talents, techniques, and tools so advanced that there is no competition.&#8221; \u2014National Science Foundation<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"THEC Logo.gif\" src=\"http:\/\/cehhs.utk.edu\/volsteach\/PARTNERS_clip_image003.gif\" width=\"130\" height=\"55\" border=\"0\" \/>\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tennessee.gov\/thec\/\" target=\"_blank\">Tennessee Higher Education Commission<\/a> (THEC) was created in 1967 by the Tennessee General Assembly (TCA 49-7-202) for the purpose of coordinating and supporting the efforts of post-secondary institutions in the State of Tennessee. One of its statutory requirements is to create a master plan for the development of public higher education in Tennessee.<\/p>\n<p>The mission for Tennessee&#8217;s twenty-first century system of higher education is to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Elevate the overall educational attainment of citizens in the State through increased accessibility to mission-focused institutions, which deliver educational services on campus, as well as through a planned network of off-campus instruction, and<\/li>\n<li>Prepare citizens responsibly for success in the new century by providing high quality teaching and research in an environment that serves the needs of its consumers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"TDOE_1.jpg\" src=\"http:\/\/cehhs.utk.edu\/volsteach\/PARTNERS_clip_image005.jpg\" width=\"152\" height=\"53\" border=\"0\" \/>\u00a0The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tennessee.gov\/education\/\" target=\"_blank\">Tennessee Department of Education<\/a> works in partnership with the Tennessee Higher Education Commission to involve parents and community leaders to ensure that students are equipped with the skills necessary for higher levels of education, the world of work, and lifelong learning.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The UTeach Institute was created to provide the direction and leadership needed to expand and replicate UTeach at qualified colleges [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"parent":900,"menu_order":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","template":"template-fullwidth.php","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"inline_featured_image":false,"footnotes":""},"class_list":["post-953","page","type-page","status-publish","hentry"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v28.1 -
