The School Psychology Program at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville offers an Education Specialist (EdS) degree and a Doctoral (PhD) degree. Both programs will prepare graduates to work to improve the quality of services for children and youth in a variety of settings. Both programs are offered on campus. Online options are not available. The UT School Psychology Programs prepare professionals who work collaboratively with educators, administrators, parents, and children to promote learning and development in general education students and for students with special needs. Our training is based on the scientist-practitioner model and graduate students learn to use a problem-solving approach to address student difficulties in learning and/or challenging behavior in field-based sites including urban, suburban, and rural schools. Research is an integral part of training.

The University of Tennessee School Psychology Program has now added an Education Specialist (EdS) degree program, in addition to the current doctoral program. The EdS degree in School Psychology is a three-year, on-campus program designed to prepare qualified school psychologists who can provide evidence-based assessment, consultation, and interventions in K-12 settings. The third year of the EdS program is a year-long internship. The first cohort of EdS students enrolled in the fall of 2020. While the new program cannot be NASP approved at this point, the program is approved by the TN State Department of Education. The application deadline for the EdS program is January 15. Contact Dr. Merilee McCurdy for more information about the EdS program.
