Katie Austin is a clinical assistant professor in special education in the Department of Theory and Practice in Teacher Education at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
She earned her bachelor of arts degree in communication with a minor in international studies from Auburn University. She then moved to Nashville, Tennessee where she received her master’s degree in instructional practice in education with an endorsement in English language learners from Lipscomb University. She taught third and fourth grade for seven years and also served as an administrator. Her interests include teacher preparation and in-service professional learning and coaching, low-intensity strategies and evidence-based practices to support students in reading and writing, positive behavioral interventions and supports (PBIS), and comprehensive, integrated, three-tiered (Ci3T) models of prevention.
