Biography
Joshua Kenna is an assistant professor of social science education and director of TPTE Graduate Studies. His research interests include the teaching and learning of social studies particularly through films and social issues, experiential learning such as field trips and service-learning projects, standards-based educational reforms, and literacy in social studies. Kenna serves as a co-conference coordinator for the International Society for Social Studies. He has authored several peer-reviewed journal articles related to social studies education, which have been featured in journals like Curriculum and Teaching, Social Studies Research and Practice, The Journal of Social Studies Education, The Journal of Social Studies Research, and Theory and Practice in Social Education. In addition, Kenna has published several book chapters. He earned his PhD in social science education from the University of Central Florida and taught high school social studies prior to moving into higher education. When not teaching and researching about social studies he enjoys spending time with his family, watching college football, working in the yard, and exercising.
