Hanall Sung, PhD

Assistant Professor of Educational Data Science

Biography

Hanall Sung is an assistant professor in the Department of Theory & Practice in Teacher Education at the University of Tennessee. Her research explores multimodal approaches to knowledge construction, expression, and assessment in technology-enhanced learning and teaching. She focuses on designing and implementing learning technologies for STEM education and studying multimodal interactions, such as speech, gesture, digital traces, and more. Her analytic expertise spans multimodal learning analytics, discourse analysis, and human-AI interaction.

Hanall is an active member of the academic community, serving on the membership committee for the International Society and chairing for Korean EduTech/Learning Sciences Research Network. Her work has been published in leading journals related to learning sciences and educational technology, including the British Journal of Educational Technology, IEEE Transactions on Learning Technologies, and the Journal of Science Education and Technology.Hanall earned her Ph.D. and M.S. in Educational Psychology (Learning Sciences) from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She holds a B.A. and M.A. in Educational Technology from Ewha Womans University in South Korea.
