Emily Holtz, PhD

Biography

Emily Holtz is an Assistant Professor of Elementary Education. Prior to her current position, Dr. Holtz worked as an elementary teacher and literacy coach for over a decade before earning her Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction with a focus on multicultural and urban education from Texas A&M University. Dr. Holtz's research can best be described as Empowering Teachers through Equity Research in Education, focusing on preparing preservice and inservice teachers to address and dismantle inequities in public schools. Her work aims to understand and address disparities in educational programming, equipping educators to foster equitable access to high-quality education for all students. Dr. Holtz’s research is organized into three strands: (1) improving program equity through teacher agency, (2) interrogating power and privilege in teacher preparation, and (3) exploring innovative approaches in teacher training.
