Distinguished Lecturer
April Haggard is a distinguished lecturer in Deaf Studies in the Department of Theory and Practice in Teacher Education at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and the ASL program coordinator.
She has been teaching American Sign Language, ASL level I-IV, linguistics of ASL, deaf and history of deaf culture and ASL literature for twenty years. She also is sign language proficiency interview coordinator. She is president of the Tennessee Association of the Deaf since 2015 and is a very active leader within this organization serving different offices. She earned an MA degree from Gallaudet University in sign language education in 2015. She holds professional certification from the American Sign Language Teacher Association. Prior coming to the program, she was previously employed at Maryville College coordinating the ASL & Deaf Studies program.
