Impactful Programs
TPTE’s goals include delivering cutting-edge, relevant, and research-based course content that provokes thinking, analysis, and discussion. Relatedly, the Department seeks to connect theory with concrete practice in learning, teaching, interpreting, and in supporting students, teachers, and community members. This is particularly important given TPTE’s focus on PreK-12 education and beyond in both formal and informal settings. Courses stress research-based practices, developing a strong knowledge base, and implementing this knowledge in relevant, field-based settings and/or drawing on artifacts from these diverse settings to understand and analyze learner experiences.
No matter where you are from, there is a place for you in TPTE.
Whether you are shifting careers or deepening your impact, our flexible graduate programs recognize your experience and support your goals in education and beyond. Explore the possibilities.

“Upon the completion of my master’s degree, I quickly learned that I missed the opportunity to continually advance my knowledge of instructional design and technology. Since beginning my journey at UTK I have developed a passion for studying educational technology and how it can benefit learners. While I love learning, my favorite part of being a student in the Learning, Design and Technology program is the support and encouragement I receive from the professors and my colleagues.”
Taylor Allen (PhD in Education – Learning, Design, & Technology, Current Student)
