Portland,\u00a0a\u00a0city known for\u00a0rain, greeted us with sun when we visited Hongxia Wei and her mentor, Judy Sheldon who is the director of the “O” Heroes Program at the University of Oregon.

While there, we\u00a0all\u00a0spent\u00a0much\u00a0of the day at the Rose\u00a0Garden\u00a0with Aziza and her mentor, Renee Posan\u00a0from USA Gymnastics,\u00a0who were\u00a0in town working on\u00a0the\u00a0Kellogg’s Tour of Gymnastics Champions<\/a>. Of course, we were happy to offer the\u00a0Olympic\u00a0athletes a few of our favorite shirts.\u00a0Both Hongxia and Aziza\u00a0had a chance to meet\u00a0the\u00a0Olympians, including\u00a0all-around gold medalist\u00a0Gabby Douglas!<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

As a child, Hongxia thoroughly enjoyed time with her father, learning to swim and play badminton. Although not an elite\u00a0athlete, Hongxia loved sports. She knew from an early age that she wanted to work in the sports industry. Upon graduation\u00a0from Law School, she found a position with the Ministry of Sport as the Director of Law and Regulation and her dreams to pursue sport in Beijing became reality.<\/p>\n

Hongxia\u00a0has been very much involved in\u00a0a community development program,\u00a0O Heroes, which is led by elite level athletes\u00a0at the University.\u00a0Through the\u00a0business\u00a0school\u2019s sports management center, Hongxia\u00a0has\u00a0an insider\u2019s look at the sports industry, including management, media, and marketing.\u00a0Both opportunities will help her with her project at home, promoting sports for everyone, including non-elite athletes.<\/p>\n

Through the \u201cO\u201d Heroes program, Hongxia has been exposed to a comprehensive community development program led by elite level athletes. Hongxia will easily be able use this model to strengthen her promotion of the \u201csport for all\u201d initiative in China. Through the Warsaw Sports Marketing Center in the Lundquist College of Business, Hongxia has had an insider\u2019s look at the sports industry, including management, media, and marketing. The Warsaw Center is committed to international relations with China and sharing ideas and experiences through sports marketing exchange programs, which makes this partnership sustainable long after the official mentorship has ended.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
