New Departmental Faculty and Staff

We are excited to introduce new additions to the Department of Retail, Hospitality & Tourism Management at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville!

New Faculty

Swechchha Subedi, Assistant Professor

Dr. Subedi joins RHTM this summer after earning her doctoral degree from the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management at the University of South Carolina. She previously earned her master’s degree from Oklahoma State University in 2019 and her bachelor’s degree from Kathmandu University in 2016.

Originally from Nepal, she has demonstrated exceptional potential for research excellence in lodging management. At RHTM, Dr. Subedi will establish her research expertise, teach both introductory and advanced lodging management courses, contribute to graduate education, and support various departmental initiatives.

New Staff

Christopher Kelley, Senior Coordinator, Hospitality and Tourism Management

Mr. Christopher Kelley joined RHTM in February 2024, coming from the College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences’ Advising Office. He earned his master’s degree in College Student Personnel from UT and has worked in the college advising office from 2020 to 2024.

In his role, he advises all hospitality and tourism management students and collaborates with industry partners to create meaningful internship opportunities for students’ professional advancement. Additionally, he has been instrumental in developing recruitment strategies, fostering industry connections and partnerships, and coordinating curriculum-related tasks for hospitality and tourism.

Jennifer Mikels, Accounting Specialist

Mrs. Jennifer Mikels joined RHTM in July 2024. A familiar face at UT, she has worked in various departments since 2004. Most recently, she served as the business manager for the UT Band program, where she planned and coordinated travel for hundreds of students and staff, often traveling with them on weekends.

At RHTM, she will manage all financial matters. Her exceptional organizational skills and strong work ethic are valuable assets to our department.
