This generosity plays a large part in the department&#8217;s ability to provide financial support for our students and faculty. Interested parties may contribute to the department&#8217;s general enrichment fund or to more specialized funds.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><a href=\"http:\/\/cehhs.utk.edu\/publichealth\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2015\/10\/handstand.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"160\" height=\"240\" class=\"size-full wp-image-192 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/cehhs.utk.edu\/publichealth\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2015\/10\/handstand.jpg\" alt=\"Graduates perform handstand in front of Ayres Hall.\" \/><\/a><strong>Unrestricted Funds<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The Public Health Alumni Fund<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\nThe Public Health Alumni Fund was established as a general enrichment fund for the purpose of supporting faculty and student exploratory research and new instructional initiatives. The funds are distributed by the public health department head only when faculty (and students who are working with faculty) submit proposals and budget justification statements that describe the purpose and need for the project and what the outcomes will be if the project is funded. Often, enrichment funds are used as seed money to support new research and teaching initiatives that lead to the preparation of much larger proposals.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/securelb.imodules.com\/s\/1341\/alumni\/interior_form.aspx?sid=1341&amp;gid=2&amp;pgid=3204&amp;cid=4841&amp;bledit=1&amp;dids=359\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Give here.<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Restricted Funds<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The mission of the Department of Public Health is to foster the development of pre-professional competencies for individuals with career interests in the disciplines of health, education, public health, or safety. The faculty is committed to research, scholarship, and creative work that together result in superior teaching and in service to the community and to the profession. Public health draws on the talents of a variety of professional disciplines to collectively address the changing threats to the health of the community. The department has specific funds which support particular aspects of its programs. Restricted gifts may be made to the fund below<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>June D. Gorski Scholarship Endowment<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<\/strong>June D. Gorski, professor emerita of health education and public health at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, established an endowed scholarship in 1995 to further the study and practice of public health. Her advisees in the community health education concentration developed the award criteria, which recognize her contributions, dedication, and passion for health education. The recipients are graduate students in public health or health education who have demonstrated a commitment to community-based initiatives, promotion or preventive measures, advocacy for policy that enhances the human\/animal conditions and collaboration to further the mission of \u201chealthy people in healthy communities.\u201d Your contributions will increase the endowment and assure gifts will be awarded in perpetuity.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\"><br \/>\n<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/securelb.imodules.com\/s\/1341\/utk\/index.aspx?sid=1341&amp;gid=2&amp;pgid=3204&amp;cid=4841&amp;dids=410&amp;bledit=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Give here.<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p><em>If you are interested in a contribution to any of the above funds, please click on the hyperlink associated with each fund or make your check payable to the UT foundation.
