Admission to UT does not guarantee admission to the Teacher Education Program.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;color: #4b4b4b\">Academic advising is recommended before submitting a UT application to determine the appropriate undergraduate or graduate student classification.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;color: #4b4b4b\">Additional information about admission to UT is available through Undergraduate Admissions.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h5><span style=\"color: #4b4b4b\"><strong>Admission Requirements<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;color: #4b4b4b\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">GPA<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;color: #4b4b4b\">Tennessee State Board of Education policy establishes a 2.75 GPA as the standard for admission to an educator preparation program.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;color: #4b4b4b\">A GPA below 2.75 does not automatically prevent an application from being considered. Exceptions may be available in select circumstances.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;color: #4b4b4b\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt\">Questions about GPA eligibility may be directed to a CEHHS academic advisor or <\/span><a style=\"color: #4b4b4b\" href=\"mailto:beateacher@utk.edu\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt\">beateacher@utk.edu<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-size: 11pt\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;color: #4b4b4b\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">ACT or SAT Scores<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 11pt\">Tennessee State Board of Education policy establishes the following standard test scores for admission to undergraduate teacher education programs:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;color: #4b4b4b\">ACT Composite: 21 or higher<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;color: #4b4b4b\">SAT Verbal and Math: 1080 or higher<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;color: #4b4b4b\">Applicants without the minimum ACT or SAT score may still be considered for admission through an approved exception process.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;color: #4b4b4b\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">Coursework and Credit Hours<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;color: #4b4b4b\">Required courses and minimum credit hours vary by teaching program and may include AP, transfer, and UT coursework.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;color: #4b4b4b\">A CEHHS academic advisor can provide information about the specific academic requirements for each program area.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h5><strong><span style=\"color: #4b4b4b\">Application Requirements<\/span><\/strong><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;color: #4b4b4b\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">The Teacher Education Application<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 11pt\">The Tennessee Department of Education requires anyone seeking a teaching license to apply to and be accepted into an approved Educator Preparation Program (EPP).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 11pt\">The University of Tennessee\u2019s Teacher Education Program is an approved EPP. Completing the Teacher Education application and receiving admission to the program fulfills this requirement for the licensure process.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 11pt\">The Teacher Education Program application is required to pursue teacher licensure through the University of Tennessee. The information below provides an overview of application requirements, required forms, and the admission process.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 11pt\">Questions about the Teacher Education application or admission process may be directed to the Office of Professional Licensure &amp; School Based Experiences at <\/span><a href=\"mailto:beateacher@utk.edu\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">beateacher@utk.edu<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 11pt\">The Teacher Education program application runs three times a year: fall, spring, and summer.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 11pt\">The expected application dates are below.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;color: #4b4b4b\">Fall: September-October<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;color: #4b4b4b\">Spring: January-March<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;color: #4b4b4b\">Summer: May-June<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b><i>The Fall 2026 <\/i><\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/airtable.com\/appXySg8BXIGjIJbt\/pagwaYIj2MWzDdjiu\/form\"><b><i>Teacher Education Application<\/i><\/b><\/a><b><i> is now open August 31-October 9.\u00a0<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 11.5pt\">To access the Teacher Education Application, click <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/airtable.com\/appXySg8BXIGjIJbt\/pagwaYIj2MWzDdjiu\/form\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">HERE<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-size: 11.5pt\">!<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;color: #4b4b4b\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">Background Check and Fingerprinting<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 11pt\">A fingerprint-based background check is required for admission to the Teacher Education Program. This requirement is based on Tennessee law and is necessary for participation in educator preparation programs and school-based experiences.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 11pt\">The complete<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/cehhs.utk.edu\/opl\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2026\/06\/Criminal-Background-Check-and-Fingerprinting-Requirement-for-Admission-to-the-Educator-Preparation-Program.pdf\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 300\">CEHHS Criminal Background Check and Fingerprinting Policy<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 300\"> provides additional information about this requirement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 11pt\">Tennessee Code Annotated \u00a7 49-5-5610 requires applicants to teacher preparation programs to authorize a criminal history records check, allow the required records to be released to the educator preparation program, and submit fingerprints for a Tennessee Bureau of Investigation criminal history records check.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 11pt\">To prevent delays, the background check requirements should be completed in the following order:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-size: 11pt\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt\">Complete the<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/airtable.com\/appXySg8BXIGjIJbt\/pagf4OS5QuyHhX0UO\/form\"> <span style=\"font-size: 11pt\">Background Check Authorization Form<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-size: 11pt\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-size: 11pt\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt\">Complete, sign, and upload the<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1p7ShTswtQmibdEa8lpLcKt-Bn-TYjirL\/view?usp=drive_link\"> <span style=\"font-size: 11pt\">VECHS Form<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-size: 11pt\"> as part of the Background Check Authorization Form. Assistance with electronically signing a PDF is available through<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/helpx.adobe.com\/reader\/using\/sign-pdfs.html\"> <span style=\"font-size: 11pt\">Adobe Help<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-size: 11pt\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-size: 11pt\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt\">Complete fingerprinting after receiving instructions by email.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 11pt\">The Teacher Education application is not complete until UT receives the required background clearance. Beginning the process at least four weeks before the application deadline is strongly recommended.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 11pt\">Applications cannot be sent to the Board of Admission for review until background clearance is received. A delay in receiving clearance may result in the application being moved to a future admission cycle.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 11pt\">A fee is required for the background check and fingerprinting process. Confirmation of eligibility for the Teacher Education Program is recommended before paying the required fees.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 11pt\">Questions about program eligibility may be directed to a CEHHS academic advisor. Questions about fingerprinting and background clearance may be directed to beateacher@utk.edu.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><span style=\"font-size: 11.5pt\">Out-of-State Applicants<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 11pt\">Applicants living outside Tennessee who are not currently admitted to or enrolled at the University of Tennessee should contact <\/span><a href=\"mailto:beateacher@utk.edu\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt\">beateacher@utk.edu<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-size: 11pt\"> before beginning the background check process. Additional instructions may be required based on the applicant&#8217;s state.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">Professional Competencies, Attitudes, and Dispositions (ProCADs)<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 300\">Successful educators demonstrate professional skills and behaviors in addition to meeting academic requirements. UT refers to these expectations as Professional Competencies, Attitudes, and Dispositions (ProCADs).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 11pt\">All candidates enrolled in teacher licensure programs are expected to demonstrate and maintain the<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.google.com\/utk.edu\/procadsforstudents\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 300\">Professional Competencies, Attitudes, and Dispositions (ProCADs)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-size: 11pt\"> expected of professional educators.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 11pt\">ProCADs are evaluated throughout the educator preparation program. Failure to demonstrate or maintain appropriate professional competencies, attitudes, and dispositions may affect continued participation in a teacher licensure program, regardless of academic performance.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><span style=\"font-size: 11.5pt\">Undergraduate Teacher Education Applicants<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 11pt\">The ProCADs questionnaire is included in the official<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/airtable.com\/appXySg8BXIGjIJbt\/pagwaYIj2MWzDdjiu\/form\"> <span style=\"font-size: 11pt\">Teacher Education Application<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-size: 11pt\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 11pt\">The questionnaire should not be completed separately. Submitting an additional ProCADs form may create duplicate records and delay application review.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 11pt\">Questions about the ProCADs requirement may be directed to beateacher@utk.edu.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h5><strong>Completed Applications<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">Board of Admission Review<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 11pt\">After an application period closes, completed applications are reviewed by the Board of Admission for the appropriate program area.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 11pt\">Review timelines vary based on the size of the program and the number of applications received. Admission decisions for different program areas may be released at different times.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 11pt\">Questions about the admission review process may be directed to <\/span><a href=\"mailto:beateacher@utk.edu\"><span style=\"font-weight: 300\">beateacher@utk.edu<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-size: 11pt\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">Admission Decisions and Next Steps<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 11pt\">All Teacher Education Program admission decisions are made by the Board of Admission for each program area.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 11pt\">After application reviews are complete, admission decisions are sent by email from <a href=\"mailto:beateacher@utk.edu\">beateacher@utk.edu<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 11pt\">Applicants recommended for admission will receive an admission letter with instructions for completing the required Admissions Verification Form.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 11pt\">Applicants who are not admitted may apply again during a future application cycle. Feedback from the Board of Admission can help identify areas to strengthen before submitting another application.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 11pt\">The reapplication process is similar to the original Teacher Education application process. In some cases, previously completed fingerprinting and background clearance requirements may not need to be repeated.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 11pt\">Questions about admission decisions or reapplying may be directed to <a href=\"mailto:beateacher@utk.edu\">beateacher@utk.edu<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">Progressing Through the Teacher Education Program<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 11pt\">Following formal admission to the Teacher Education Program, required professional education coursework must be successfully completed before advancement to student teaching or the professional internship.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 11.5pt\">Continued good standing in the program requires:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-size: 11pt\"><span style=\"font-weight: 300\">A minimum 2.75 overall GPA<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-size: 11pt\"><span style=\"font-weight: 300\">A minimum 2.80 GPA in professional education coursework<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-size: 11pt\"><span style=\"font-weight: 300\">A grade of \u201cC\u201d or higher in all professional education courses<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-size: 11pt\"><span style=\"font-weight: 300\">Successful completion of required coursework<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-size: 11pt\"><span style=\"font-weight: 300\">Continued demonstration of the Professional Competencies, Attitudes, and Dispositions (ProCADs) expected of professional educators<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 11pt\">Teacher Education interns are issued a Practitioner License for the internship year.
