Community Nutrition FAQs
Will I get any practice experience in the community?
Yes, there are several ways you can get practice experience in the community. You can volunteer to work with any of the community nutrition faculty doing outreach or research in the community; you will get practice experience in the community in NUTR 413S; you may be able to get practice experience in NUTR 493 if a community nutrition professor has projects in the community at the time you are enrolled.
Do I need liability insurance?
If you are working with the public, either as a volunteer on a faculty member’s outreach or research project or if you are enrolled in a course that requires working with the public, you will need liability insurance. This insurance, which is an annual fee paid by the student, is provided by the University. You do not need to purchase liability insurance on your own. Be sure and talk with your community nutrition professors about when you need this insurance.
