Presentation 1: Understanding a Journey of Publishing in the Academic World

Dr.  Ping Xiang is a sport pedagogy professor in the Department of Kinesiology & Sport Management at Texas A&M University. She received her master’s degree (specializing in theory on physical education) from Shanghai University of Sport in 1987 and her PhD in Kinesiology (specializing in sport pedagogy) from Louisiana State University in 1996. Her research primarily focuses on students’ motivation in physical education/physical activity settings. Dr. Xiang has edited one book, written 6 book chapters, and published approximately 90 articles in peer-reviewed journals, including Journal of Teaching in Physical Education (JTPE) and Research Quarterly for Exercise and Sport (RQES). The Web of Science data revealed Dr. Xiang as the most prolific sport pedagogy researcher in the world from 2004 to 2013, in terms of publications in journals with impact factors. She served as co-editor of JTPE from 2008 to 2012 and received the 2019 Honor Award of Instruction and Curriculum, SHAPE America. Dr. Xiang is an active fellow of National Academy of Kinesiology. Currently Dr. Xiang is on the editorial board of JTPE, RQES, and Advanced Exercise and Health Science, and an associate editor of Journal of Sport and Health Science.

 

Presentation 2: Supporting Health and Wellbeing through Stress Reduction Practices

Debbie Ringdahl, DNP, RN, CNM is Faculty ad Honorem, University of Minnesota School of Nursing, teaching in midwifery and women’s health programs for three decades. She completed her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree in 2010 and co-directed the Integrative Health and Healing DNP Program at the University of Minnesota School of Nursing 2014-2020. Her doctoral education and professional focus were the incorporation of integrative modalities into healthcare by nurses. Her primary expertise in integrative therapies is Reiki, a hands-on therapy originating in Japan, with current research linking Reiki practice to elicitation of the relaxation response, decreasing pain and anxiety. She has written chapters on touch therapies, Reiki, integrative nursing symptom management, and nursing as an integrative healthcare profession.
