{"id":1587,"date":"2019-03-07T15:06:28","date_gmt":"2019-03-07T15:06:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cehhs.utk.edu\/klass\/?p=1587"},"modified":"2019-05-10T18:45:00","modified_gmt":"2019-05-10T18:45:00","slug":"faculty-training-working-with-students-on-the-spectrum","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cehhs.utk.edu\/klass\/2019\/03\/07\/faculty-training-working-with-students-on-the-spectrum\/","title":{"rendered":"Faculty Training: Working with Students on the Spectrum"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The KLASS Center is pleased to provide training, in conjunction with Student Disability Services, to faculty members of undergraduate and graduate programs on campus to aid working with and teaching students who are on the Autism Spectrum. We can also provide the training for other campus entities and staff groups as needed.<\/p>\n<p>The training can be tailored to the unique requests of the programs, but will generally cover common topics such as: What Autism is (and is not); things you might notice in a classroom when working with students on the Spectrum; common challenges such as communication (in-person and electronic), social interactions (in-person and electronic), sensory issues, and repetitive motor behavior; and the challenges that these students may face personally.<\/p>\n<p>While challenges are often the most noticed with students on the Spectrum, we will also touch on student strengths.
