{"id":6,"date":"2015-06-30T15:01:55","date_gmt":"2015-06-30T15:01:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pipes.utdev1.wpengine.com\/?page_id=6"},"modified":"2025-01-15T11:38:31","modified_gmt":"2025-01-15T16:38:31","slug":"for-students-parents","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/cehhs.utk.edu\/ip-pipes\/for-students-parents\/","title":{"rendered":"PIPES Components"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left\">The PiPES project has various components for students and families:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">A <strong>PiPES Intervention Course<\/strong> is delivered to <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">all ninth- and tenth-grade students <\/span>at Jellico High School, Sequoyah High School, Sweetwater High School, and Tellico Plains High School. This course is designed to inform students about college, connect academics to college\/career, and inform students about STEMM career options.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A <strong>summer program<\/strong> experience is available for up to 70 students each June We offer two different experiences:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>PiPES Explorers Camp<\/strong>&#8211; This four-day camp is for up to 50 rising sophomores and juniors at our four partner schools. Campers explore campus and college life by participating in many hands-on activities, lab tours, campus tours, and hearing from guest speakers from admissions, the career center, and more!<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>PiPES Investigators Camp<\/strong>&#8211; This five-day camp is for up to 20 rising juniors and seniors at our four partner schools. Campers participate in ACT Prep each morning and in-depth STEM research lab placements each afternoon.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>In-School Curriculum Manuals<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p data-wp-editing=\"1\">Copies of the PiPES In-School Curriculum Manuals are available for your use.<\/p>\n<p data-wp-editing=\"1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cehhs.utk.edu\/ip-pipes\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2023\/07\/9th-grade-IP_PiPES.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ninth Grade Curriculum<\/a><\/p>\n<p data-wp-editing=\"1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cehhs.utk.edu\/ip-pipes\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2023\/07\/10th-grade-IP_PiPES.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tenth Grade Curriculum<\/a><\/p>\n<p data-wp-editing=\"1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cehhs.utk.edu\/ip-pipes\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2025\/01\/Major-Clarity-Guide-2-compressed.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Major Clarity Guide<\/a><\/p>\n<h3 data-wp-editing=\"1\"><strong>Video Series<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p data-wp-editing=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">We have put together a <a href=\"https:\/\/cehhs.utk.edu\/ip-pipes\/for-students-parents\/rural-appalachians-in-stemm\/\">video series<\/a> highlighting rural Appalachians currently working in STEM fields to be shown in high school classrooms. You can find the videos on our website here and our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/channel\/UCQNK--_F0XxPkGQcGBZI9_Q\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">YouTube channel<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>12th Grade Senior College Prep Course<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">PiPES is piloting a 12th Grade Senior College Prep Course at our four partner high schools. Our target audience for this course is highly self-motivated students who are mainly interested in attending a four-year college. Modules cover content about selecting a college, applying, transitioning to college, and introductory STEM course help.
