Bailey Graduate School of Education<\/a> located in the College of Education, Health and Human Sciences (CEHHS) hosted the Bailey Graduate School of Education Lecture Series on Thursday, October 11 in the UT Visitor&#8217;s Center.\u00a0 Guest speaker for this year&#8217;s event was Samuel L. Odom, of Chapel Hill and San Diego State University; a CEHHS three time graduate and well-known for his work in early childhood education and autism.<\/p>\n<p>Odom&#8217;s topic, &#8220;Running With the Wolves in Special Education: Reflections on the Field and a Career&#8221; focused on the remarkable evolution of the field of special education and services for children and youth with disabilities over the past half century.\u00a0 He also discussed the importance of conducting school-based research that supplies evidence for effective practices and educational policy and the future direction for the field of Special Education.<\/p>\n<p>Odom was also honored at the <a href=\"https:\/\/cehhs.utk.edu\/2018\/10\/16\/tpte-holds-annual-recognition-ceremony\/\">Department of Theory and Practice in Teacher Education Recognition Ceremony<\/a> prior to the reception and lecture.\u00a0 He was recognized as an &#8220;Outstanding Alumnus&#8221; for his work in Special Education.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The David T.
