ONLINE LEADERSHIP STUDIES PROGRAM<\/em><\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

EDS, MS, CERTIFICATE<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies Online K12 Leadership Program is a hybrid asynchronous\/synchronous, distance education program, which prepares candidates for a Tennessee Instructional Leader License.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

The 30-credit-hour Master\u2019s program, 36-credit-hour Education Specialist Program (with a research component), and the 21-credit-hour Graduate Certificate program, involve both coursework and an Instructional Leader Fieldwork Clinical Practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The pathways are standards-based \u2013 the profession\u2019s standards (NELP), and the State of Tennessee\u2019s standards (TILS), as well as TN Literacy Standards. As the candidates approach their Instructional Leader Fieldwork Clinical Practice, grounding the opportunities in professional standards allows them to view the experiences as the work of leadership, rather than coursework assignments. Moreover, standards-based assignments are not solely University of Tennessee defined but are a collaborative effort of the mentor, the facilitator, and the candidate. Thus, the candidate may take the lead on problem solving or constructing a response to an issue or a need at the school where they perform their fieldwork. The pathways include a fieldwork course which is taken concurrently with the candidate\u2019s field experiences. The course is designed to help bridge the gap between theory and practice, and allows candidates to understand the skills and dispositions required to lead schools, and the standards under which they will work, while adding to their knowledge through standards-based projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ELPS Online Leadership Studies program is accredited nationally by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) and by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). The program has been approved to recommend students for Instructional Leadership Licenses through the State of Tennessee Department of Education and is a charter member of the University Council for Educational Administration (UCEA).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Master of Science Degree in Educational Administration<\/h3><\/div><\/div>

This 30-credit hour program<\/strong> includes 3 credit hours of internship and leads to a Tennessee Instructional Leadership License (ILL-B). The program is designed to align with the National Educational Leadership Preparation (NELP) Standards, the Tennessee Instructional Leadership Standards (TILS), and State Literacy Standards. At the conclusion of coursework, students will be required to take the School Leaders Licensure Assessment and score above the established cut-off score to be recommended for Instructional Leadership licensure.<\/p>\n\n\n

Specialist in Education Degree in Educational Administration<\/h3><\/div><\/div>

This 36-credit hour program<\/strong> includes 3 credit hours of internship as well as 6 credit hours of research and leads to a Tennessee Instructional Leadership License (ILL-B) license. A master\u2019s degree is required for entry into this program. The program is designed to align with the National Educational Leadership Preparation (NELP) Standards, the Tennessee Instructional Leadership Standards (TILS), and State Literacy Standards. At the conclusion of coursework, students will be required to take the School Leaders Licensure Assessment and score above the established cut-off score to be recommended for licensure as a Tennessee instructional leader. Students in the EdS program will be required to present a field research project at the qualification exam defense.<\/p>\n\n\n

Master of Science Degree or Educational Specialist Degree in Educational Administration, Non-Licensure Track<\/h3><\/div><\/div>

This program includes either 30 (master\u2019s) or 36 (specialist in education) credit hours of coursework but does not lead to a Tennessee Principal License because an internship in the state of Tennessee is a requirement for licensure. This option is available to candidates who want an advanced degree in educational administration and are willing to apply for a principal\u2019s license in the home state, post-degree conferral. Electives in the program of study are chosen by the student in consultation with the advisor.\u00a0 An internship is not required for the non-licensure track.<\/p>\n\n\n

Instructional Leadership Graduate Certificate in Educational Administration<\/h3><\/div><\/div>

This 21-credit hour program<\/strong> is designed for students who already have a master\u2019s or specialist in education degree and seek a Tennessee Instructional Leadership License. An internship is required. This program does not lead to a degree but a certificate in educational administration is awarded upon completion. At the conclusion of coursework, students will be required to take the School Leaders Licensure Assessment and score above the established cut-off score to be recommended for a Tennessee Instructional Leadership License (ILL-B).<\/p>\n\n\n
