The inaugural Early Learning Institute was kicked off this year with a special event- The opening of\u00a0the exhibit Cultivate the Scientist in Every Child: The Philosophy of Frances and David Hawkins. The exhibit was on loan to us from the Hawkins Centers of Learning based in Colorado and features the extensive work of Frances and David Hawkins. From the Hawkins Centers of Learning website:<\/p>\n
“…an educational exhibit created by Hawkins Centers of Learning, celebrates and brings to life the work of this remarkable couple. To this day, David\u2019s educational approaches, largely informed by Frances\u2019 insightful classroom observations, inspire professionals worldwide. David\u2019s theories have been foundational to the renowned schools for young children in Reggio Emilia, Italy, and are expressed in many other venues. Cultivate the Scientist in Every Child is both a tribute to Frances and David and a vehicle to spread their very timely message.”<\/em><\/p>\n The exhibit was first on display at The Muse, a wonderful space for exploration and play here in Knoxville. Next, it moved to the L&N STEM Academy for viewing and engaging throughout the Early Learning Institute. Dr. Mary Jane Moran opened the evening by introducing Karen Worth, an advocate for science education for young children and an acquaintance of the Hawkins’. Worth shared the impact that Frances and David’s work has had on the development of quality science programming for children.<\/p>\n
