This intensive placement allows students to develop professional skills and gain valuable experience aligned with their academic and career goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Internship applications are due each March for internships taking place in the following academic year (Fall, Spring, or Summer). For example, apply by March 2026 for an internship in Fall 2026, Spring 2027, or Summer 2027.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">To be eligible for the HDFS internship, students must meet the following requirements:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">\u00b7 Completion of all <strong>HDFS-prefix courses<\/strong> with a grade of <strong>C or better<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">\u00b7 Minimum <strong>2.5 GPA<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">\u00b7 <strong>Senior standing<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">\u00b7 Successful completion of <strong>HDFS 405<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Given the intensive nature of the internship placement, students who are pursuing Human Development and Family Science (formerly known as the Child and Family Studies Community Outreach track) are encouraged to consult with their advisor and\/or the internship coordinator when considering whether to take additional courses with internship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Research Internship: HDFS 490<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In very special circumstances, students with strong research foundations and interests may partner with an HDFS faculty member to complete a research practicum (HDFS 490). Students interested in the research option should identify current HDFS <a href=\"https:\/\/cehhs.utk.edu\/chdfs\/our-research\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"23811\">research labs or projects<\/a> of interest and consult with the corresponding faculty member.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Community Placement: HDFS 480N<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The vast major of students complete a practicum in our local community.
