{"id":1133,"date":"2017-03-10T07:41:06","date_gmt":"2017-03-10T12:41:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ceems.utwebteam.wpengine.com\/?p=1133"},"modified":"2019-05-03T16:22:10","modified_gmt":"2019-05-03T20:22:10","slug":"my-calculus-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cehhs.utk.edu\/ceems\/2017\/03\/my-calculus-project\/","title":{"rendered":"My Calculus Project"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In part of CEEMS Community Mathematics Project, CEEMS Director Dr. Lynn Hodge and Dr. Jeneva Clark, of the UTK Mathematics Department, have teamed up for the \u201cMy Calculus\u201d Project.<\/p>\n<p>This project aims to teach undergraduate Calculus through social justice themed activities.\u00a0The project seeks to highlight math as a tool for students to use when examining and understanding current issues such as homelessness.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1134 alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/cehhs.utk.edu\/ceems\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/25\/2017\/03\/IMG_3477-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"187\" height=\"250\" \/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1135 alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/cehhs.utk.edu\/ceems\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/25\/2017\/03\/IMG_3478-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"334\" height=\"250\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Most recently, as part of a discussion about equity, math, and the chain rule, students created \u201cCalculus Chain Necklaces\u201d to give to local elementary students.\u00a0 Each necklace has some calculus and messages of inspiration for students. In order to get the necklaces to the elementary students, some Calculus students and faculty help to deliver the necklaces with CEEMS to schools in Knox and Campbell counties.
