{"id":1125,"date":"2017-02-14T21:50:23","date_gmt":"2017-02-15T02:50:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ceems.utwebteam.wpengine.com\/?p=1125"},"modified":"2026-07-08T17:33:22","modified_gmt":"2026-07-08T21:33:22","slug":"ceems-talks-research-at-tn-stem-conference","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cehhs.utk.edu\/ceems\/2017\/02\/ceems-talks-research-at-tn-stem-conference\/","title":{"rendered":"CEEMS Talks Research at TN STEM Conference"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\tCEEMS Director Lynn Hodge and TPTE Graduate Assistants Ashley Walther and Michael Lawson attended this year\u2019s 11<sup>th<\/sup> Annual Tennessee STEM Research Conference in Murfreesboro, TN.\u00a0 The purpose of the conference is to engage researchers and collaborators across the state in discussions about current research\u00a0efforts to improve STEM teaching and learning.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1127 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/ceems.utwebteam.wpengine.com\/files\/2017\/02\/08-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" \/>Ashley Walther and Dr. Lynn Hodge developed a research presentation from a study on teachers\u2019 experiences of planning and implementing a social justice mathematics lesson, and how tensions arose while teachers tried to attend to the mathematical and social justice goals of the lesson.<br \/>\nMichael Lawson, Ashley Walther, and Dr.Lynn Hodge co-developed a research presentation for the\u00a0Math Counts project with Gale Stanley from Campbell County Schools.\u00a0 This session focused on initial impact of the second year of the Math Counts summer institute (Math Counts 2) on teacher content and pedagogical learning, and critical resources from the professional development that support teachr learning.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1126 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/ceems.utwebteam.wpengine.com\/files\/2017\/02\/14-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" \/>Michael Lawson and Lynn Hodge also developed a rapid talk session, discussing results and lessons learned from building home-school partnerships through Family Math.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Authors and Presentation Titles for each session are described below:<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ashley Walther and Lynn Hodge\u2014Leveraging the Local Community in math Class: A Teacher\u2019s Tale<\/li>\n<li>Gale Stanley (Campbell County schools), Michael Lawson, Ashley Walther, and Lynn Hodge\u2014Examining Teacher Learning and Critical Resources in the Context of Mathematical Professional Development<\/li>\n<li>Michael Lawson and Lynn Hodge\u2014Building Home-School Partnerships in High School: Lessons Learned from Family Math Night<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>CEEMS Director Lynn Hodge and TPTE Graduate Assistants Ashley Walther and Michael Lawson attended this year\u2019s 11th Annual Tennessee STEM [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":3,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"inline_featured_image":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[2],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-1125","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-news"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v28.1 -
