Kinesiology, BS 

A degree in kinesiology is more than studying exercise; it’s the science of how the human body moves, adapts, and performs. If you’re interested in health, performance, rehabilitation, or sports, kinesiology gives you a strong foundation in anatomy, biomechanics, physiology, and motor control that applies directly to real-world careers. It opens pathways into physical therapy, occupational therapy, athletic training, strength and conditioning, sports science, and medical professions.

Program Overview

The undergraduate Kinesiology program prepares students for a variety of careers in health-related fitness and for graduate or professional study in medicine, allied health professions, and various fields within kinesiology (exercise physiology, biomechanics, sport psychology, and more). 

The Department of Kinesiology, Recreation, and Sport Studies is a member of the American Kinesiology Association (AKA).

A bachelor’s degree in kinesiology provides students with a deep understanding of how the human body moves, adapts, and performs under stress, training, and recovery. Through courses in anatomy, biomechanics, exercise physiology, and motor control, students gain practical, science-based knowledge that explains not just what the body is, but how it functions in real-world conditions.

Personal Trainer

A personal trainer is a certified fitness professional who designs individualized exercise programs, coaches proper technique, and supports clients in achieving health, strength, and performance goals safely and effectively.

Performance Coach

A performance coach is a professional who optimizes physical or mental performance through targeted training, strategy, and feedback to help individuals or teams reach peak results.

Strength & Conditioning Coach

A strength & conditioning coach designs and implements evidence-based training programs to improve athletes’ strength, power, speed, and injury resilience for enhanced sport performance.

Applied Anatomy

Structure and roles of bones, joints, and muscles in human movement and exercise. Related biomechanical principles.

Physiology of Exercise

Lecture and laboratory class dealing with the functions of the body in muscular work. Topics include physiological aspects of fatigue, training, and adaptation to the environment.

Fitness Testing and Exercise Prescription

Relationship of exercise to cardio-respiratory function, body composition, strength, and flexibility. Measurement and evaluation of fitness in normal populations.

Biomechanics of Human Movement

Study of biomechanics and its application to the analysis of human movement. Emphasis on quantitative and qualitative analysis of human movement.
