The Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (AUSP) area of study is designed to introduce undergraduates to the fields of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology and to prepare them for applying to graduate school.
Program overview
This program is a joint undergraduate degree program offered between the Department of Theory and Practice in Teacher Education at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and the Department of Audiology and Speech Pathology at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC).
We offer a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree that provides undergraduate students opportunities for focused study in the field of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology. The program is designed to prepare students to apply to graduate programs to become practicing Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) with a master’s degree, a clinical Doctoral Degree (e.g., SLPD; approx. 2-3 years), or a Research Doctoral Degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders (e.g., Ph. D.).

ntroduction to Communication Disorders
Nature, etiology, and incidence of speech, hearing, and language disorders.
Elementary American Sign Language
Development of expressive and receptive sign language skills. Video, text, and interactive teaching methods are used. Class conducted totally in sign.
Phonetics
Basic phonetics, including recognition and production of spoken English sounds with analysis of their formation, phonetic transcription of speech, and phonetic aspects of dialect variation.
