Program overview

The Graduate Certificate in Art Education (K–12) prepares educators and professionals to develop the knowledge and skills needed to teach art effectively and equitably to K–12 learners from diverse backgrounds. Designed for licensed teachers seeking an additional endorsement, educators with undergraduate preparation in art education, and professionals whose work intersects with K–12 or art education, the certificate provides focused study in art education theory, pedagogy, production, critical practice, instruction, and assessment.

The 15-credit-hour program may be completed on the Knoxville campus or through distance education and can be pursued as a stand-alone certificate or alongside a graduate degree. For eligible Tennessee teachers, coursework may lead to an additional Art Education endorsement, pending transcript review, required licensure examinations, and faculty recommendation.
