CEHHS Names New Director of Marketing and Communications

The College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences (CEHHS) at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, has named a new director for the Department of Marketing and Communications.

Doug Edlund, Director CEHHS Marketing and CommunicationsDoug Edlund brings many areas of expertise including video production, marketing, media relations, emerging technology, social media strategy, and podcast production to the role. He joined CEHHS after 22 years with the UT Institute of Agriculture as Assistant Director of Marketing & Communications. Doug also worked at WBIR-TV in Knoxville for twelve years where he covered a number of national stories as a photojournalist including the Oklahoma City bombing and John Glenn’s return to space. His work has been used in international news workshops in more than forty countries and in TV news classes at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

“I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to work with the the talented marketing and communications team and well as the incredible faculty and staff here at CEHHS. The college truly embodies the land grant mission of the University and I’m looking forward to working with the team to tell its many stories,” said Doug.

Doug is active in the Association for Communications Excellence, or ACE, where he has been a member since 1999. ACE is an international professional development organization comprised of communicators at land-grant institutions in the U.S. and in numerous countries worldwide. He has served in a number of leadership roles and is now a past president. As an ACE member, Doug has made multiple presentations on communications best practices in the United States and Canada.

A two-time graduate of UT, Doug holds bachelor of science and master of science degrees in communications. He is married to Ruth Brake Edlund and they have one daughter, Christina, who is studying exercise science at the University of Tennessee, Chattanooga.

Prior to Doug joining the college, Jules Morris led the department for six years.  Bringing many years of experience, she was the college’s first director of Marketing and Communications where she established, staffed and effectively developed the department. She accepted a lecturer position in the Haslam College of Business in June, 2021, where she is teaching digital marketing while completing her PhD in Communications and Information.
