Nutrition Graduates Are Just “Handy Dandy”

handy dandyFour of Marsha Spence’s Nutrition 505 graduate class can be called “handy dandy,” not only for winning first place in UT’s Graduate Student Symposium this spring but also for giving back to the community.  Kristin Riggsbee, Sara Hay, Megan Beck and Lauren Manuel, graduate students from Spence’s class, assessed the Handy Dandy Market & Deli in South Haven during the Fall, 2014 semester.  After submitting their report to the symposium in Spring, 2015, they were awarded a cash prize and they knew exactly what to do with it.  These four students, answering a need they saw in the community, decided to purchase a smoothie machine for the market.  Owner, Alan Dunlap, is open to change and willing to try some of their recommendations.
