The Early Learning Center (ELC) at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville encourages children to spend their summer trying new things with their family. Children enjoy a brand new experience as well as their parents as they co-learn with them. Something like going strawberry picking helps a child explore where their food might come from. Tubing on the river, kayaking or paddle boating, hiking a new trail or trying out a new picnic spot are among suggestions from the ELC for new adventures and learning experiences for your children. Most of all, get them away from the electronics. Children not watching television or on the computer are more likely to engage in active learning, physical movement, and fun while enhancing their continuous learning during the summer.
