Biography
Laurie L. Meschke, MS, PhD conducts community engaged research and service to enhance the adolescent and women’s health. Currently, Meschke has two primary projects. With awards from UT Grand Challenges and the National Science Foundation, Meschke and her colleagues serve to reduce the impact of opioid use disorder (OUD) in rural East Tennessee (see https://tnopioid.utk.edu/). The first provides training to increase the involvement of faith-based communities in preventing opioid overdose. The NSF study, under the direction of Dr. Zhenbo Wang, examines how drones may increase access to healthcare of rural East Tennessee communities, with and emphasis on substance use disorder and mental health treatment. Finally, through a CDC-funded contract with the Tennessee Department of Health, Meschke and her evaluation team conduct the statewide evaluation and training support related to rape prevention in Tennessee.
