Members of the Department of Exercise, Sport, and Leisure Studies (ESLS) recognized at the National Parks and Recreation Annual Congress and Exposition
Members of the Department of Exercise, Sport, and Leisure Studies (ESLS) were recognized at the National Parks and Recreation Annual Congress and Exposition that was held Oct 14-18 in Baltimore, MD.
Dr. Gene Hayes, a professor in ESLS, received the Meritorious Service Award and the Harold D. Meyer Professional Excellence Award. The Meritorious Service Award recognizes individuals who have demonstrated meritorious service at the local, state, regional and/or national levels in the area of therapeutic recreation and who have displayed exemplary behavior through creativity and originality in programs. The Harold D. Meyer Professional Excellence Award is presented to an outstanding professional for continuous dedication and service to the park and recreation field in the place where he/she works and through service to the profession at the state, region or national level. We in ESLS are proud that a national organization has recognized Dr Hayes' years of dedicated service in the field of therapeutic recreation.
Ms. Trinette Mumford, a second year M.S. student in ESLS, received a National Diversity Scholarship. This highly competitive scholarship provides opportunities for students to become more actively involved in the NPRA meeting. Trinette was able to meet with NRPA leadership and attend various education sessions and board committee meetings at the NRPA Congress & Exposition. The primary focus of the program is to inspire future participation and leadership in NRPA, and to develop contacts with NRPA leaders and other professionals from around the nation. Trinette is a great example of the wonderful students in the ESLS Department.
