Partners in Sports held its 12th annual Scholarship Golf Tournament at Gettysvue Golf Club on June 22 and raised more than $15,000 for its scholarship endowment. [nivoslider id="2692"]

Gettysvue once again provided a perfect setting as 92 golfers hit the links for a day of fun while also supporting the student organization of the Sport Management program at the University of Tennessee; a part of the Department of Kinesiology, Recreation, and Sports Studies. Sport Management master’s student Will Crockett served as tournament director with the championship committee consisting of master’s students Ashlie Caldwell (player prizes), Jessica Leifheit (silent auction), Jackson Martin (food and beverage), and Scott Kimsey (course operations). The tournament volunteers consisted of sport management students enrolled in the Event Management class this summer taught by Jim Bemiller and Robin Hardin. The event provided opportunities for students to take leadership positions within the management of the event, and for students to gain an understanding of the details involved in planning and operating an event.

The winning team was sponsored by Rocky Top Materials led by Donnie Summers with second place going to a team sponsored by Allegiant Athletic Agency led by alumnus Hunter Baddour (M.S. 2011). Other alumni participating included Brian Rice (B.S. 2005, M.S. 2007), Frank Lett (B.S. 2002), Chad Culver (B.S. 1999), and John Ewart (B.S. 1999).

A special thanks to the event’s majors sponsors: Stephen and April Harris, Knoxville News-Sentinel, Volunteer Traditions, BSN Sports, Under Armour, Allegiant Athletic Agency, S2 Consulting, House Paws Mobile Veterinary Clinic, Tennova, and Bo Harris Golf Academy. Thanks also to Chick-fil-A for sponsoring breakfast and Bonefish for sponsoring lunch. Also, thanks to the College of Education, Health, & Human Sciences for its continued support of Partners in Sports and the golf tournament.
